There’s a few ways to try and treat people addicted to drugs, mostly tried all together. Use of other drugs to treat things like withdrawal, counselling to help people understand their addiction and what they can do to help themselves get better, counselling to treat other issues that someone may have. It needs to be a whole approach really, with support from people in their lives too.

It is really hard to cure an addiction because you can be both physically and mentally addicted. Some people can go ‘cold turkey’ which means just stop but this is probably the hardest way to do it, although also the quickest. There are other drugs which can be used to help people break their addiction. These are generally substitutes which can then be reduced in strength gradually. Like Donna said, counselling is also an important part.
