I use an antimicrobial thats used in a lot of cleaning and antibacterial products (triclosan). I make bacteria resistant to it (in the lab only) so i can find out how they become resistant. We want to know that because when they become resistant to triclosan, they can become resistant to antibiotics too. If we know how they do this, we can try and identify a good place to try and intervene through developing a new drug.

When drug resistance is rising alarmingly I find new antibiotics to kill superbugs and reverse the tide of drug resistance!
