I’d want to let people have it and not patent it like Jonas Salk didn’t for the polio vaccine

I wish it were so simple. 🙁

Sadly, the development of medicine costs billions of pounds (sadly money I don’t have) so sadly the patent would have to be sold to a company for development. Additionally, my work is not just owned by me for doing it, but also my institute as they pay my wage, provide equipment and maintain the laboratory. So the choice to sell or not would not be mine!

I work for the NHS so if I was to discover a cure for something I’d give it to my employer. That way everyone would benefit from it. However, finding a cure is only the first stage. There will be years of drug testing and clinical trails after that which, unfortunately, cost millions!!! Therefore, I’m sure the drug companies would have to sell in at a price in order to recoup their investment.
